Metro Farms is your guide to growing plants, food, and exploring farming innovations. From houseplants to vertical systems, we share honest, practical advice on what actually works. No gatekeeping, no overcomplicated jargon — just straightforward guidance for anyone interested in growing.
Growing has always been my thing. I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t covered in soil or rescuing a dying plant. But in 2020, like everyone else, I found myself stuck indoors. That’s when I got serious about growing food and plants inside my flat. I quickly learned that I didn’t know anything, I just wanted one nice easy place to learn.
I studied Sustainability at Utrecht University in the Netherlands, and the irony wasn’t lost on me: I had all this knowledge about systems and environmental impact, but finding practical, honest advice on how to actually grow basil under a grow light? Surprisingly hard.
So I started experimenting. A lot. (Spoiler: I killed many plants in the process. Many.)
What I learned is that indoor growing doesn’t have to be complicated – but it does need good information. The internet is full of people gushing about their setups or pushing products they haven’t actually tested. What’s missing is straightforward guidance from someone who’s failed enough times to know what actually works.
That’s why my brother and I created Metro Farms. It’s part growing guide, part equipment review, part love letter to the idea that fresh food, houseplants, and sustainable living don’t have to be difficult or expensive. They just need the right information.
Whether you’re setting up your first grow light, filling your apartment with plants, or building a home farm, you’ll find honest, practical advice here — tested by someone who’s done the work (and made the mistakes so you don’t have to).
